Gordon St is first and foremost a rock and roll band. People are often puzzled by this classification, but upon first listen it becomes quickly apparent why the band defines itself this way. Gordon St’s music is not simply rooted in hard rock but also in R&B, blues, country, and folk; recalling an era when bands needed to be diverse in order to survive. What also separates Gordon St from their contemporaries is an underlying sense of humor that reverberates through their music. Make no mistake, the band takes its musicianship very seriously, but one can tell from the band’s lyrics in songs such as “Homeless Romantic” and “Peggy Beans” that its members as well as its fans appreciate both irony and whimsy.

DSC04688bw.jpgGordon St’s roots date back to the earlier part of the decade when lead vocalist/bassist Dan Noonan and guitarist Ritch Harrigan cut their teeth together playing in numerous incarnations of their band throughout high school and college. Live in concert, the bond that was formed from many years of playing together is readily apparent. A veteran of several upstate NY bands, drummer Dennis Fatato solidified Gordon St’s line-up when he joined the fold in the summer of 2007. The band has grown in large part due to the diversity of the venues and crowds they have played to; ranging from nationally renowned venues such as Jillian’s (Albany, NY), Northern Lights (Clifton Park, NY), and Valentines (Albany, NY) to more intimate settings like Sego’s Wine Bar (Oneonta, NY) and the Moon and River Café (Schenectady, NY)  which has served as host to several acoustic Gordon St sets. The band has had the privilege to share the stage with several national acts including The Sadies, Thriving Ivory, and Paging Grace.

During the later days of 2007, the band entered the studio for the first time and cut several tracks for their first EP, which can be purchased at their live shows. Currently, the band is beginning to build a loyal fan base in the Capital Region of New York State and preparing to venture outside the area to bring their music to a new audience. In 2009, Gordon St hopes to also record their first full length album and to continue growing as musicians, crafting songs that capture what we all love about contemporary music. Remember, they’re just three blocks up, two blocks over…
